- Grant Funded Sauk Valley Community College seeks
innovative individual for a full-time grant funded, twelve-month
position. Located in rural northwestern Illinois, along the scenic Rock
River, between the cities of Dixon and Sterling; the College is one hour from
Rockford and the Quad Cities and two hours west of Chicago.
Responsibilities:
Provides advising and support services to transfer-bound Student Support Services participants. Primary focus is on facilitating participant transfer success at four-year institutions.
- Responsible for assessing participant needs, developing Individualized Educational Plans, monitoring individual progress of each participant, financial aid counseling, and maintaining up-to-date notes in each participant's file.
- Coordinates and facilitates college survival, study skills, and informational workshops and cultural activities for SSSP participants.
- Provides proactive and intrusive transfer, academic, and personal advising to participants.
- Assists participants in identifying and securing admission to potential transfer institutions.
- Assists with filling out the FAFSA and maximizing participants' scholarships and grants for their chosen institution.
- Coordination of all campus visits to area four-year institutions and serves as a liaison between participants and area four-year institutions.
- Develops and implements Program workshops and seminars to enhance the transfer and graduation rates of participants.
- Provides information on academic rules and regulations (add/drop, withdrawals, graduation requirements, etc.)
- Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Counseling, Student Personnel or related fields required. Experience in transfer advisement required, preferably in a community college. Experience working with low income, first generation and/or students with disabilities required. Background similar to the SSSP participants preferred.
