Project VITAL recruits and trains volunteer tutors to work one-to-one with adults who want to improve their reading and writing skills or, in some cases, need to learn to understand and speak English as a second language.
The first step for those of you who are interested in being a volunteer tutor is to attend one of the following workshops. There is no charge in attending the workshop and there is no obligation to tutor. There is also no charge for the materials you will be using when you are matched with a student. We would like the tutors to serve 1 1/2 hours, twice a week, at times and locations convenient for you. We ask for a three month commitment; but because we have one-to-one tutoring, we can be flexible and adjust to your schedule. If you have questions or concerns, please call Tim Benedict at (815) 288-5511, ext. 241 or 363.
Pre-service tutor training workshops are held periodically to train new tutors.
We provide the materials, the location and the student.
