Lecture Notes
This unit will begin an in-depth study of Georges Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of Grande Jatte. Altogether we will look at the painting through four lenses, that is, perspectives, beginning in this unit with cultural practices and social influences.

Readings
A continuation of our readings on hermeneutics.

The Agora
After reading about and viewing Seurat's painting, choose one of the figures in the painting and write a monologue of what you imagine the figure is thinking.

Writing assignment
After referring back to Units 1 and 2, choose a painting that interests you and do your own hermeneutical circle on it.
