The renaissance era made it possible for a painter to express his/her own feelings, thus freeing the painter from the guidelines of the old masters. Through mathematics and mechanics, an artist was able to define the linear perspective, between the representational reality of the artist and the physical reality of nature.
Readings
Seek and understand some information about the Sistine Chapel and the artist that designed the paintings. Notice how the Sistine Chapel was designed, and learn of the artist who did not really want to paint the Sistine Chapel. Imagine what the Sistine Chapel ceiling would have looked like if the creator had really wanted to paint it.
Agora Discussion
It is known that Michelangelo did not really want to paint the Sistine Chapel, because of his true love for sculpturing. Can you think of any other artist that felt the same way as Michelangelo did?
