Certificate Programs Requirements

Certificate programs consist of a series of prescribed courses in a specialized field that prepare the student for entry level occupations. These programs range from 8 to 48 semester hours and are designed to be completed in less than two years. Certificate programs require few general education requirements and thus are designed to develop the technical competence of the student. Many certificate programs contain the core courses of the associate in applied science degree program in the same field, allowing the student to continue with additional study and earn an A.A.S. degree.

As it is for degree students, certificate students must satisfy the state requirements regarding national, state and local government, the United States Constitution, and the Illinois Constitution in one of the following methods:

  1. present evidence on a high school transcript that the Constitution examination was satisfactorily completed in an Illinois high school
  2. successfully pass the Constitution examination administered by the SVCC Counseling Office
  3. successfully complete one of the following SVCC courses: GOV 163 or 164 or
  4. submit a copy of a GED showing "Constitution passed"; if taken in Illinois
