Dorothy K. Engel Music Awards

DOROTHY K. ENGEL

Dorothy K. Engel and her husband George owned and operated Engel's Music Store in Sterling for twenty years.  Dorothy sang and played piano and organ in local performing groups and was a prime mover in the establishment of community concerts.  She has dedicated her life to bringing music into the lives of the people in the Sauk Valley region.

Mrs. Engel established an endowment with the Sauk Valley Community College Foundation to provide support for fine and performing arts at the College.  Income from the endowment supports the Dorothy Engel Music Award, as well as other music and art programs, at Sauk.

THE DOROTHY K. ENGEL ENDOWED MUSIC AWARDS

The purpose of the awards is to recognize full-time students with outstanding talent and experience in the field of music and encourage them to pursue the development of their talents through continued study in music at Sauk Valley Community College.  The financial award is conferred on an annual basis.

Entering freshmen, continuing students, and second year students transferring to the College from other institutions are eligible to apply.  A committee composed of the Music Faculty and one College administrator will select recipients based on the student's ability, potential for teaching or performance, and academic achievement.  The student must be a music major and must be actively involved in the music program at the College.
