SVCC Mathematics Placement Policy

When students choose to take their first math course, they must enroll in the math course as designated by their valid placement scores (within three years) or satisfy individual course prerequisites. Students must earn a grade of “C” or higher to progress to the next level. All students enrolled in developmental math courses must demonstrate proficiency with algebra subject matter at the conclusion of MAT 080 to progress to college-level math.

Students mathematics skills are measured using one of the following options for placement:

• SVCC Placement Test Results (COMPASS Mathematics)
• ACT Mathematics scores
• CLEP or AP exam scores
• Review of credit already earned at any accredited college or university including Sauk Valley Community College
