Steve J. ShaffMr. Steve Shaff, Professor of Mathematics, earned his Bachelor of Arts (Teaching) degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1987 with a major in Mathematics and minor in Computer Science. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics from UNI in 1988. Since then, Mr. Shaff has completed an extensive number of courses and workshops in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Education. He began teaching at SVCC in 1989.

At SVCC, Mr. Shaff teaches courses in College Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus. Professionally, he is interested in mathematics curriculum issues and enjoys his involvement with mathematics competitions for middle school and high school students. In 2000, he received the Joint Honors Award from the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers for his work with MATHCOUNTS. He is a member of the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics , the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and has attended many state and national mathematics education conferences. In 2002, he received the ICTM Post-Secondary Mathematics Teaching Award.
