Mr. Kevin J. Sommerfield, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, graduated from the College of DuPage, went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, and completed his Master of Science degree in Pure Mathematics at Northern Illinois University. Prior to joining SVCC full-time, Mr. Sommerfield taught a wide range of math courses at Waubonsee Community College, Benedictine University and Northern Illinois University. He is a member of the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Mr. Sommerfield enjoys reading, watching movies, science fiction, and is an amateur magician. He has two cats and a wife, Tara Dirst, who is a librarian at Northern Illinois University Libraries.
