Introduction to Seminar

 

As a student you will be required to participate in two seminar classes each of which will run concurrent with your two required worksite practicum’s.  Your seminar experience will focus on discussions on how to integrate practicum experiences and social services theories, values and practice concepts. 

 

Objective 

  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines for the helping profession

  • Knowledge of models of supervision and peer group learning

  • Knowledge of culturally sensitive intervention approach

  • Knowledge of keys to good writing and record keeping

  • Knowledge of stress management and self-care

  • Increase ability to recognize and respond appropriately to aggression

  • Knowledge of students responsibility in case of termination

  • Knowledge for assessing and evaluating professional practice

  • Knowledge of the joys and frustration and professional growth through self examination

Goals

  • Provide student an experience as a beginning Human Service practitioner in a social service agency

  • To provide tasks which lead to the development of competence in problem solving at the first level of professional practice

  • Provide experience for developing beginning skills in social interaction with individual, families, small groups, organizations and communities

  • To have an opportunity to work with diverse populations

  • To develop and practice personal and professional values

  • To professionally self-evaluate one's own practice
