Head Volleyball Coach Jay Howell

The 2012 season is Jay howell's third year as head volleyball coach at Sauk Valley Community College.  In Howell's first two seaons, the Skyhawks' have won 34 matches and advanced to the Region IV semi-finals both seasons.

Prior to coming to the Skyhawks, Howell coached volleyball for 11 years at Newman Central Catholic High School and served as head coach from 2004-2009.  He is still the varsity girls' basketball coach at Newman, and coaches club volleyball for Excess Volleyball.  

Howell graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's degreee in Civil Engineering.  He is a retired Civil Engineer from the Illinois Department of Transportation, and is employed by American Survey and Engineering in Dixon as Vice President of Engineering.  

Jay resides in Dixon with his wife Sue.  They have seven children (six daughters and one son), four of whom have attended Sauk.

Former Skyhawk Abby Howell returns to Sauk Valley Community College as Assistant Volleyball Coach for the 2012 season.  Howell played basketball for the Skyhawks from 2005-2007.  She is a graduated of Newman Central Catholic High School, where she was an All-Conference performer in both volleyball and basketball (which finished 4th in the state her senior year).  

After earning her associates degree at Sauk in 2007, Howell received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Illinois University in 2009, and Master of Science in Special Education from Northern Illinois University in 2011.  

Howell served as varsity assistant volleyball coach at Dixon High School in 2011.  She is currently teaching special education at Oregon High School and resides in Sterling.
