Program Admission Requirements

16 people will be admitted in to the wind energy certificate program each year.  Students must be admitted to the program and successfully completed the tower climb competency test prior to enrolling in the ENE 101 Wind Energy Fundamentals course.

Group registration will occur for students admitted into wind program.  At that time students will be provided a supplies list for the program.  Students will be expected to provide their own steel toed shoes, cotton work pants and cotton shirt.

The Wind Energy Certificate program will only be available during the daytime hours (no evenings).

Minimum criteria to be eligible for admission into the Wind Energy Certificate program:

  • Placed into MAT 106/080 or higher, or the completion of MAT 074 , or higher (initial course completed) with a grade of “C” or higher.
  • Placed out of reading on the reading portion of the COMPASS or ACT test, or the completion of RDG 098 with a grade of “C” or higher.
  • Successfully complete tower climb competency test (The tower climb will be in July)

Selection Criteria:

Students will be given admission bonus points if they have:

  • Completed college level courses in chemistry or physics (grade of C or higher)**
  • Completed previous college level EET courses (grade of C or higher)**
  • Completed MAT 106 (grade of C or higher)
  • For each college level math course completed above MAT 106 (grade of C or higher)
If a course is repeated the last grade earned is used in the calculation of bonus points.
**Science and electronics courses need to be completed within the last 5 years

“Bonus points” will be awarded according to the following scale.
  • Grade of “A”  -  3 points
  • Grade of “B”  -  2 points
  • Grade of “C”  -  1 point

If points are tied after final tabulation, overall course grade point average will be used to rank students.

Students will need to complete an on-line application form by June 1 before the fall semester.

Students must be capable of climbing to heights of over 250 feet and working in confined spaces.

Students not admitted in the first group will be ranked and placed on a waiting list.  This list will be used to fill vacancies if admitted students withdraw their application, or are not present for the first class period.  

Students are required to send a confirmation of acceptance letter/email after being admitted in order to hold their spot by July 1 before the fall semester.
