Sauk Valley Community College student Jamie Cervantez of Sterling was recently awarded the Marcia E. Quick Nursing Scholarship for 2009-10. The $2,000 scholarship was awarded through the Sauk Foundation.

A nursing major, Cervantez carries a 3.85 GPA. He plans to graduate from Sauk in May 2010 with a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) certificate and return to Sauk to earn an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). Cervantez also plans to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) and pursue a career as a registered nurse.

A 1994 graduate of Sterling High School, Cervantez and his wife Whitney have three children.

The Marcia E. Quick Nursing Scholarship is one of 80 private donors that provide scholarships to deserving Sauk students each year. These scholarships play a crucial role in helping these students pursue their educational goals.

The Sauk Foundation is a non-profit corporation that helps to broaden the educational opportunities and services that SVCC provides for its students. Each year the Foundation distributes scholarships that total more than $160,000.
