Safety and Health Class for Grain Handling to be offered Dec. 17

Sauk Valley Community College will offer Safety and Health for Grain Handling, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, in Room 3M3.

This course includes requirements for the control of grain dust fires, explosions and other safety hazards related to the grain handling facilities under 20 CFR1910.272 (and 1917 marine terminals).

Topics will include emergency procedures, fire prevention, hazardous materials, electrical safety, and specifics for grain handling and milling facilities. While these required regulations do not apply to seed plants, which handle and prepare seeds for planting of future crops, on-farm storage, or feed lots, these operations can greatly benefit from this class.

Cost for the class is $60. To register, stop by Sauk’s Office of Admissions and Records, Room 1J1, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, or between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays.

For more information, call Sauk’s Office of Personal and Professional Development at 815-288-5511, ext. 212.
