Agora Assignment Three
After reading about and viewing Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of Grande Jatte, choose one of the figures in the painting and write a monologue about what you imagine the figure is thinking. Do not identify the figure--make us guess. Then, after reading the monologues by other students, see if you can guess which figure each student chose from the monologue they wrote. For example, I imagine the figure I chose to be thinking--
"I hope I remember how the song goes today. My, that was embarrassing yesterday when I had to stop playing because I couldn't remember the next few notes. But this heat really gets to a person. I'm surprised I even have the energy left to pucker by the end of the day. I guess I shouldn't complain. This is a much better job than playing in those smoky dance halls. At least I'm out in the fresh air. And I do get to see an entirely different class of people here in the park. Maybe they don't look at you, or talk to you, but at least they aren't screaming at you- Hey, play Carnival of Venice one more time!"
