The program's curriculum is guided by the standards developed by the JRCERT. Our accreditation status means SVCC has met the standards required and helps to assure the public that our curriculum will graduate competent clinicians. It also allows the college's RT graduates to take the certification examination in any state that requires a license to practice radiologic technology.
SVCC Radiologic Technology program is a two-year Associate of Applied Science program.
Total credit hours required for the degree: 66.5.
Major field credit hour requirements: 52.5.
General education credit hour requirements: 14
Students will have two to three courses per semester which require classroom attendance at Sauk Valley Community College. Please view the curriculum page on this website for a general overview of the required courses.
Students are assigned to facilities by the coordinator to function under supervision of a clinical instructor with regard to clinical hours.Students may not exceed 40 hrs per week (combined classroom and clinical hours).
First year students will spend two full days (8 hours) per week-on-site. These days will be Tuesday and Thursday.
Second year students will spend three full days (8 hours) per week on-site. These days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
In addition, second year students will be scheduled for evenings and weekends during Spring semester for additional experience with trauma type patients when department is not as fully staffed to evaluate ability to perform procedures more independently. This rotation's objective is for the student to gain confidence and independence when dealing with a trauma patient
The Radiologic Technology program generally accepts 24 to 26 students each fall semester.
