Communication (Mass) - Associate in Science (814)

(814) Associate in Science

Bachelor's degree programs in Mass Communication encompass four major program areas: Advertising/ Public Relations, Radio/TV/Film, Journalism/News Editorial/Photojournalism, and Multimedia. For each specialty, 9 semester credits in the desired major, in addition to the 37-41 semester credit Illinois Transferable General Education Core Curriculum (IAI GECC), are recommended. The remaining credits necessary to complete an associate degree should be chosen with the assistance of an counselor or academic advisor. Some schools have specific requirements for all students for admission to the major (e.g., portfolio review, minimum grade point average {GPA} and/or other forms of assessment).

Note: Students should be computer literate. Computer skills may be acquired before or early in the college experience.

Students who have already chosen the university to which they plan to transfer should consult that institution's catalog or department advisor and an SVCC academic advisor in planning their program.
