Anita Carney joined the SVCC team as the
Career Services
Coordinator
. Career Services will work with SVCC students in
job searches and preparation to help obtain part time and full
time jobs as well as internships. She will also work with Sauk
Valley employers to develop trained workforce, expand
employment opportunities, organize job fairs and develop
relationships between students and employers.
Jerry Mathiseatre saw a packed house for the first shows
directed by SVCC’s

, made audiences connect
and laugh with the characters as they fell in and out of love.
In the spring, families enjoyed singing, dancing, and
stories of Charles Schultz’s Peanuts in the musical
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown
. A special alumni
event was held during the Sunday matinee for families
to enjoy Charlie Brown treats and meet the cast
following the show.
Ana Salgado
, student activities/cross cultural services
coordinator, received the 2012 YWCA’s Women of
Achievement’s Louise Bittorf Sullivan Inspirational Woman
Award. Salgado was recognized with this honor because of
her efforts to empower the Latino youth in the community.
Phi eta Kappa Honors Society’s sold out fundraiser,
Concert for a
Cause
, raised $6000 as it featured singer/songwriter Damon Johnson
(guitarist for bands such as Alice Cooper andin Lizzy) and a
silent auction. e group donated the money to four community
groups, Shining Star of Dixon, PADS in Sterling, TechGyrls of Rock
Falls and the United Way of Whiteside County.

treated every guest like a star at the Academy Award-themed
event. Every nominee in each category deserved an award for their
achievements and dedication to the school. Award winners included:

Alan Pfeifer
, former Dean of Information Systems, was appointed Academic Vice President.
Music instructor Kris Murray received the
2012 Illinois Alliance for Arts Education’s Music
Educator Award
. Murray was nominated by a former student for her use of technology in
the classroom.
Jill Horn
, adjunct math instructor, published her second book, “e Development of
a Mathematical Mind,” in April. e book focuses on ways to encourage math in everyday
lives from toddlers to adults.
