Sauk to Host Alumni Basketball Game (11-4-2008)

It's Back! Sauk to Host Alumni Basketball Game on Nov. 1Sauk will kick off its 2008-09 basketball season with an alumni basketball game at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, in the gymnasium. "It should be a lot of fun for the players and fans" said Coach Russ Damhoff. He explained that the reason alumni games have not been held recently is that the game counts as one of four practice dates that the NJCAA allows a team to prepare for the season. However, with the way this season is set up, an alumni game fits in perfectly. Damhoff recalled the last alumni game in the mid 1990s. Skyhawk Todd Sigel scored 64 points "from deep" and the alumni won. "We had three outstanding guards that year including All-American Brian Piper and they were a little overconfident heading into the season," said Damhoff. "After Todd put 64 on them they got focused and we won our first 10 games of the season." Damhoff added that a repeat may be hard for the alumni this year as Sauk's squad features three talented starters.
