Skyhawks Fall In 1st round of Highland
Taking on undefeated and nationally ranked Monroe College, the Skyhawks led for the first 10 minutes, but it was the second ten minutes that decided the outcome. The Skyhawks could not handle Monroe's full-court pressure the second ten minutes and trailed by 12 at half 37-25. The Skyhawks got back to single digits twice in the second half, but poor shooting and inconsistent ball handling were too much to overcome as the Skyhawks fell 77-60. The two bright spots for the Skyhawks were the play of guard Kwan Waller and forward Rico Combs. Waller finished with 24pts and 11 rebounds to lead Sauk in both areas. In spite of limited minutes due to foul trouble, Rico Combs also posted a double double going 14pts. and 10 rebounds to continue his strong play for the Skyhawks this season. Also in double figures for the Skyhawks was Robbie Minor who chipped in 12pts and 6 rebounds.
After a frustrating first round loss, the Skyhawks hit the floor running in game two. Lake County wanted an up tempo game but they were no match for Sauk Valley's up tempo game. The Skyhawks had a hot hand throughout shooting 52% from the field, and rolling to a 123-101 victory to advance to the consolation championship game. Sauk put seven players in double figures led by their three sophomore captains; Kwan Waller with 23pts, DJ Williams with 20 pts, and Rico Combs with his second straight double double going 17 pts and 10 rebounds.
