Sauk Valley made the long trip to Kankakee on Saturday to take on the Region IV rival Cavaliers. The game was back and forth as the Skyhawks fell behind early then made a strong run in the middle of the 1
half to catch the Cavaliers only to see Kankakee regain the lead and at halftime the Skyhawks went to the locker room trailing by six 48-42.
The second half saw the Skyhawk catch the Cavaliers early and trailing by one the Skyhawks had four straight trips to take the lead.
In spite of great looks the shots would not fall and Kankakee again jumped up by six. The Skyhawk defense had a letdown as the offense continued to struggle and the Skyhawks were down 18 with 7 minutes to go. Then the Skyhawks answered on both ends closing to within two with 28 seconds left and put Kankakee on the line to stop the clock. Kankakee made one of two free throws to lead by three as the Skyhawks brought the ball down with a chance to tie.
Two good looks from three would not fall as the Skyhawksfall 92-89 for a disappointing bus ride home. The Skyhawks put four player in double figures in the loss led by Kwan Waller with 28 points and Rico Combs with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Robbie Minor had another strong floor game with 5 assist and only two turnovers along with 12 points, while JaMario Dunlaprounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points.
