2-12-2009 - Highland
Game No. 28 was the rematch with conference rival Highland. Since Sauk's road loss at Highland on January 20th, the Skyhawks have gone undefeated (5-0) in conference to set up the rematch. This time the Skyhawks wouldn't be denied. After a slow start the Skyhawks took off to build an 11 point lead at halftime 36-25. An outstanding defensive effort saw the Skyhawks hold the high scoring Cougars to 25 points and set the tone for the second half. The Skyhawk defense was again strong but Sauk could not find the range as the Cougars crept within two. But the Skyhawks would not give up the lead, instead they put together three quick baskets to put the lead back to nine. Highland had no answer for the last Sauk run as the Skyhawk iced the big conference victory from the foul line. Leading the way for the Skyhawks was sophomore forward Rico Combs with an outstanding game scoring 19 points while getting a game high 17 rebounds in the victory. Sophomore wings Kwan Waller and DJ Williams combines for 21 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals along with their strong defensive effort. The victory puts the Skyhawks 1 game behind Highland in the conference race with two games to go for Highland while the Skyhawks (19-9 9-2) will finish their conference season with a game at Black Hawk East on February 19th.
