12-13-14 Highland Tournament

L 49-69, W 76-66

-The Skyhawks had a solid showing at the Highland Christmas Tournament over the weekend. In the first round on Friday the Skyhawks took on a 8-3 Iowa Central team in a game that has become a yearly battle to start the tournament.  This year was no different with the game tied 32-32 at the half. The second half saw the Skyhawks struggle from the field (11-34) shooting but an outstanding defensive effort gave the Skyhawks a 7 point victory 72-65 over the Tritons.  In the semi-finals the Skyhawks shooting woes continued against a talented Moberly Missouri team, as the Skyhawks went 18 for 68 (ouch) from the field and fell 49-69 to the Grayhounds.  This put Sauk Valley in the third place game against the host and major rival Highland.  The Skyhawks started fast as they found their shooting touch going 20-38 from the field in the first half and a 48-32 halftime lead.  In the second half the Skyhawks perimeter shooting cooled off, but Freshman center A.J. Dollmeyer stayed hot on the inside to lock down the 76-66 victory over the Cougars for the third place trophy.  Dollmeyer led the Skyhawks with 18 pts. and James Trice had 17 pts. off the bench, while Jacoby Posley had his third double figure performance for the tournament with 14 pts.  Posley was named to the six man All-Tournament team for his outstanding play on both ends of the floor.
The Skyhawks (9-3) have one game left before the Christmas break as they travel to Kankakee on Thursday (7:30 tip) for a battle between the top two rated teams in Region IV.  Go Skyhawks!!
