The Skyhawks hosted their Sauk Classic on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, in game one, Olive Harvey defeated St. Ambrose JV. 88-60. Game two saw the Skyhawks take on Prairie State. It was the Skyhawks defense that carried the day, giving up only 44 points in Sauk Valley's 77-44 victory. The Skyhawks put 13 players in the scoring column led by Sean Chislom with 16 pts. and Isiah Box was also in double figures with 11. Austin Lee led the Skyhawks in rebounds with 7 and in assist with 4.
On Saturday the first game saw St. Ambrose defeat Prairie State in overtime 61-54. Friday's winners Olive Harvey and Sauk Valley went at it in game two and it was an early season battle. The Skyhawks struggled early with the Panthers quickness and defensive pressure but made a late run to take a nine point lead into the half 40-31. Olive Harvey answered early in the second half to take the lead, but the Skyhawks answered back to regain the lead. Then Olive Harvey made another run with their defense creating turnovers to build a nine point lead with a little less than 6 minutes to go. But the Skyhawks weren't done and led by Isaiah Box, built a 3 point lead with a minute to go. Skyhawks Freshman Garrett Duffin then went after a lose ball to try and lock down the victory but ran into teammate Lamar Upshaw's knee and was knocked unconscious. The game was delayed approx. 30 minutes as Garrett was taken to the hospital ( he was released mid-morning and is doing fine except for a headache). When the game resumed the Skyhawks were focused to get the victory for their teammate and locked down a 80-71 victory to go to 3-0 on the young season. Isiah Box led the Skyhawks with 22 pts., while Sean Chislom had 10 rebounds and two blocks. Also in double figures were Garrett with 11 pts. and Malcolm Mabry with 10.
The Skyhawks are back in action on Saturday as both the women and men make their first road trip of the season as they travel to Daley College. Go Skyhawks!
