The Skyhawks placed third at their own Sauk Valley Invitational with a team score of 60. Chris Ratliff (29:24) from Sauk Valley came in second behind freshmen winner Chris Hoffman (28:45) of Harper College. Ratliff's teammate Drew Rowe (31:23) placed ninth, while Gene Gilkey (32:16) was 13th, Curtis Myer (33:40) 17th, Marco Sid (34:07) 19th, Mike Smidt (37:51) and Drew DeVries (41:31) placed 23rd and 27th out of 30 runners.
Team Results: 1st Harper College, 2nd Prairie State College, 3rd Sauk Valley, 4th Carl Sandburg, 5th College of Lake County. Other schools represented were: Morton, and Joliet Jr. College.
Carl Sandburg College runners came in 1,2, 3 to take top honors in the women's division. Sophomore Jessica Hanson finished in 1st place with a time of 20:10, Morgan Melvin came in second at 21:18 and Sarah Goodlaxson 3rd 24:15.
The Skyhawk women's team (who didn't have enough runners to compete as a team) ran to prepare for the Regional Championships at Sauk in two weeks. Finishing right behind Sandburg's first place finisher was freshman Kerstyn Richard with a time of 20:47. Abby Wheeler ran the course in 22:01 and Marissa Hacker in 23:21. Prairie State College finished in second place. Other schools attending but not competing as a team were Harper, Joliet Jr. College, College of Lake County and Morton College.
Sauk Valley will host the Region IV Cross-country Regional Championship on Saturday, October 25th.
