Sauk Valley Community College's women's team and three individual male runners participated in the 2010 Nationals at Spartanburg, South Carolina, this past weekend.

The women's team placed 28th out of the 38 entries. Leading the Sauk women was Victoria Castaneda (RF) who placed 50th out of 284 runners (19:39). Second for the Skyhawks was Kathryn Gehrke (S) in 127th place (20:58). Third was Jessica Davis (RF) in 162nd place (21:32). Carissa Apperson (S) finished in 202nd place (22:14), and Amy Cosgrove (Geneseo) in 208th place (22:19). Rounding out the scoring for Sauk was Breanne Hunter (Oregon) in 245th place (23:36) and Jessica Sergeant (Walnut) in 279th place (26:21).

The three male qualifiers were Nick Belmonte (Rochelle) who finished 99th out of 299 runners (27:28), Anthony Lombardo (P'town) finishing 152nd (28:13), Sean Leaf (RF) finishing 169th (28:38).

The race was run on a flat course with gently rolling hills. The women's course was 5K, and the men's was 8K.

All the Sauk athletes ran their best personal times of the season.

The Sauk runners are coached by Mike Sullivan and Mark Johnson.
