Head Coach Dave Williams
Dave Williams is in his 14th season as head golf coach at Sauk Valley. Williams has more than 45 years experience as a teacher, coach, and athlete at the high school and college levels as well as experience in health and fitness in the private sector. One of his favorite highlights of the Skyhawk golf program is eleven consecutive years of participation at the national championships.
Williams began teaching at Sauk in 1995 at the new fitness center and instructing golf classes. In 1999 he took the reins of the college’s golf program.
Williams was head basketball coach at Texas Women’s University, and basketball, football, cross-country, and track at Ridgewood High School in Norridge. While at Ridgewood, Williams coached the school’s first undefeated conference basketball team, and his cross-country team finished 10th in state (1970) and won five straight conference championships. At Rock Falls High School, Williams earned varsity letters (2) in basketball, football, and three years of golf. In college, he played basketball for three years at Illinois State University.
Williams holds a Master of Science in Physical Education from Northern Illinois University, a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from Illinois State University, and has completed 3 years post-graduate work at Texas Women’s University. He is a decorated veteran of Vietnam, serving as an infantryman and combat medic. He lives on the Rock River with his wife Peg, and has one son in Florida.
Assistant Coach Walt Clevenger
Walt Clevenger enters his 9th season as Skyhawk’s assistant golf coach. He brings experience to the Skyhawk’s golf program as both competitive golfer and former coach. Clevenger has more than 45 years of competitive golf experience. He will again work with the team members on all aspects of the game, especially course management. As a collegiate athlete he played golf at Northern Illinois University (NIU) during his junior and senior year. He competes in golf tournaments throughout the central Illinois. As a coach, Clevenger coached Sauk’s golf program for two years from 1970 to 1972. Clevenger was also an administrator and teacher in the College’s computer information systems for more than 30 years. He and his wife, Wendy, reside in Dixon. They have a grown son and four grandchildren.
Assistant Coach Bill Stotzer
Bill Stotzer is in his 12th season as assistant golf coach at Sauk with more than 50 years of experience playing competitive golf. His expertise lies in the short game and golf course management. “Stotz,” as he is affectionately referred, provides direction and supervision to the team primarily on the Skyhawk’s home course, Emerald Hill Golf Course and Learning Center.
A three-time club champion at the Rock River Country Club, Stotz helped start the golf program at Newman Central Catholic High School and serves as captain of the school’s first golf team (1950-52) when Newman was known as Catholic Community High School. He also played freshman golf at the University of Notre Dame.
Stotz holds a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Notre Dame and is a Newman Central Catholic High School graduate.
