The Skyhawks left on Friday for Cocoa Beach, Florida and when they arrived the weather was sunny and warm. And the Skyhawks are even hotter on the field. They opened on Sunday against Itasca C.C. (Minn.) and with their bats enjoying the warm weather posted a 5 inning 11-0 victory. Game 2 on the first day saw the Skyhawks take on Cumberland C.C. (New Jersey) and the Skyhawk bats were even hotter as they doubled their game one output scoring 22 runs as they doubled up the Dukes 22-11. Day two saw the Skyhawks sweep a pair of games from Ridgewater C.C. (Minn) by the identical score of 7 to 1 behind solid defense and the pitching efforts of Stephanie Kester, Priscilla Aponte, and Taylor Wagler. For day 3 the Skyhawks (4-0) took on Lincoln College, another Illinois college that went to Cocoa Beach to escape the Illinois weather. The Skyhawks continued to roll in the warm weather posting 8-1 and 16-6 victories over the Lynx. On Wednesday the Skyhawks made it EIGHT IN A ROW, first with a 8-0 shutout of Hibbings C.C. (Minn) and then in a late afternoon match up against Illinois power Illinois Central the Skyhawks won a pitchers duel. The game was tied 0-0 after 7 innings and in the top of the first extra inning I.C.C. put a run on the board, but the Skyhawks came back with 2 in the bottom of the inning to take the victory behind three straight bunts! The Skyhawks (8-0) will have their last two spring trip games today before returning home to sunny (we hope) Illinois. Go Skyhawks!!
