Men's Tennis Team Outlook
This year’s Skyhawk Men’s tennis team will have only one of its top six players returning. Gavin Jensen from Sterling Newman who played number four singles and number two doubles respectively. The other two returning players are Tanner Dir and Troy Miller both from Sterling. They didn’t get to see much action last year but will be in the top six this season. All of these players did a great job for Sauk last year and will help lead the team through the tough Spring schedule. The Skyhawk’s schedule is competitive and they face competition from 9 other NJCAA colleges mostly from the Chicago land area.
The new players this year will be Jonathon Downing, Cody Woodyatt, and Victor Renteria who all played at Sterling High school. Julius Alvarado who played number one singles at Lake View High School his Senior year. Gilberto Ibarra who played at East Chicago High School all four years and was number one singles his Senior year, also a former member of Sauk’s baseball team. These players have experience at the high school level and possess the skills it takes to compete at the collegiate level and will be an attribute to the team.
With hard work and dedication this team has the potential to be among the top teams at the Regional Tournament in April and could qualify for the National tournament held in Texas in May.
