The Sauk Valley Community College volleyball team is hoping to continue to build on their recent success which includes: an average of 29 wins over the past 4 seasons; two straight Arrowhead conference titles and two straight trips to the national tournament. Head Coach Jay Howell has reason to be optimistic that this will be another successful version of the Lady Skyhawks as they take the court in 2016 with a solid core of sophomores, and a talented group of freshmen.
Returning for the Skyhawks are: outside hitter and 2nd Team All-American Tressa Schuler (494 kills, 67 service aces); defensive specialist Chelsi Blair (517 digs); middle/opposite hitter Erin Greene (191 blocks); and opposite hitter Taylor Pullan (202 kills). A fifth sophomore is a transfer from Kishwaukee College, defensive specialist Samantha Soddy.
The Skyhawks are excited to add seven freshmen to this year’s squad: Sauk Valley Media’s Co-Player of the Year Bailey O’Brien from Rock Falls HS; All-Conference middle hitter Hannah Peterson from Fieldcrest HS; Kacey Koch, an all-conference setter from Dixon HS; All-conference hitter Tori Smoode a from Putnam County HS; outside hitter Jensyn McKinney from Prophetstown HS; setter Leanne Smith from Putnam County HS and defensive specialist Alexis Herrera from Rock Falls HS.
