Sauk Valley moved to 5-0 on the season in winning 4 matches at Wisconsin Dells this weekend.
On Friday, the Skyhawks opened with a 5 set win over Kansas City CC. After winning the first two sets 25-15, and 25-21, Kansas City won the next two, 17-25 & 22-25. The Skyhawks were able to pull out the 5th set 15-12, spurred by 3 kill blocks between Mackenzie Skoumal, Hannah Peterson & Tori Smoode. For the match, Sommer Rhea had 15 kills, 19 digs and 4 aces; Bailey O’Brien and Hannah Peterson had 8 kills, and Kacey Koch & Paige Conner had 19 & 13 assists.
In their 2nd match on Friday, Sauk played the defending Div. III national champs, Harper College. After dropping the first set 19-25, the Skyhawks won the next 3 by scores of 25-17, 25-23 & 25-14. Hannah Peterson led the Skyhawks with 11 kills and 3 kill blocks; Bailey O’Brien had 8 kills and 19 digs; and Gwen Lohr-Fandel and Sommer Rhea had 5 kills. Kacey Koch had 15 assists and Paige Conner 10.
On Saturday, Sauk won two straight set matches. First against St. Clair CC by scores of 25-13, 26-24 & 25-17. Leaders were Sommer Rhea with 13 kills, Bailey O’Brien with 10 kills, Gwen Lohr-Fandel with 13 digs and Kacey Koch with 19 assists.
The Skyhawks finished the tournament with a straight set win against Madison (#4 in DIII) by scores of 25-15, 25-17 & 25-23. Bailey O’Brien led the way with 13 kills, Sommer Rhea had 10 kills and Hannah Peterson had 7 kills and 2 kill blocks. Gwen Lohr-Fandel had 14 digs; Kacey Koch 15 assists and Paige Conner 11 assists.
Sauk Valley will open Arrowhead Conference play at home on Tuesday at 6pm against Carl Sandburg.
