Other (See Remarks)
To provide temporary emergency shelter for the night.
The homeless shelter houses people from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM only from October 1 to April 30. The shelter is located in a four bedroom Lee County Housing unit and under the direction of the Dixon Area Church Council, so there are certain regulations that must be followed. The shelter will not accept any felons or anyone who smells of alcohol. There is no smoking allowed in the center, either. There is only room for up to eight people. Food is available, but guests must prepare their own meals. The guests are visited by volunteers from the local churches two hours a night and provided information about the area resources. The shelter is run by volunteers, with the exception of one paid staff to spend the night in the unit. The shelter is funded by donations, for it costs approximately 8,000 dollars a year to run the shelter.
