David Buchen
SBDC Director

David comes to Sauk Valley Community College with an extensive career working in the area of small business development. David directed an SBDC and started a Main Street Program in Tucumcari, New Mexico. He also directed an entrepreneurship center, home-based business center, and coordinated programs for the SBDC at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater.  

David's work experience also includes working for the Small Business Administration (SBA) in Chicago, IL. Mr. Buchen has also owned several small businesses in photography, media production and grant and strategic development for small nonprofit organizations.

Emily Zimmerman

Emily comes to Sauk Valley Community College after working seven years in private accounting.  With a master’s degree in Business Administration, Emily brings a wealth of insight in accounting practices, marketing, development planning, and social media networking. She will also be teaching the Entrepreneurship Principles course that is now being offered as part of the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management certificate program. 

As a lifelong resident of Amboy, IL her desire to help aspiring entrepreneurs and to keep small businesses alive and thriving is not only a professional commitment, but a personal one as well.   

Shannon Stafford
Administrative Assistant/Marketing Coordinator

Shannon comes to Sauk Valley Community College with an array of experience in Records Management, Marketing, Customer Service and Office Management. She has worked in a variety of small businesses including architecture, construction, paper goods, distribution, records management and retail. 

Originally from Michigan, Shannon and her husband moved to Dixon in October of 2015. She will be providing support to the SBDC office and its counseling.  A major focus in her current position will be in developing and maintaining all of the marketing and social media for the office.  She will be providing support as well to the Center's workshop and educational outreach program.
