Library FAQ's

What is the LRC?
The LRC (Learning Resource Center) is a library and much more. The LRC provides library and media services to Sauk students, faculty members, and members of the public.
Where is it located?
On the east side of SVCC's third floor.
Who can use the LRC?
Everyone may use the LRC. Students obtain free cards, renewable each semester. Free, annually renewable cards are available to college district residents who are at least sixteen years of age. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
How do I get a library card?
For SVCC students, simply bring in an ID and a copy of your school registration. Residents of the district who are not SVCC students can bring in a photo ID, such as a driver's license, and proof of your address such as a check or a piece of official mail.
The LRC does not have the book that I want, what do I do?
The LRC is a member of the Prairie Area Library System (PALS), and the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI). Interlibrary loans may be requested by students, faculty, and staff  through CARLI’s I-Share catalog, and by LRC staff  through PALS’ PrairieCat and the Statewide Illinois Library Catalog.
Can I make copies and print from the computers?
Yes. Printing from computers is free to students, faculty, and staff; black and white copies are $0.15 and color copies are $0.25.
How long can I borrow an item?
Open shelf books are loaned for a four-week period. One renewal may be requested. Current periodical titles must be used in the LRC. Older titles are loaned for a two-week period. The card owner is responsible for all titles (fines and/or replacement costs) charged to his/her card.
How much are late fees?
Overdue charges are twenty-five cents daily for open shelf books and periodicals, fifty cents daily for reserve materials, and two dollars daily for videotapes and calculators.
How do I renew my items?
Students and faculty can renew their items by logging into the Sauk catalog using their library barcode and name. Public patrons can renew in person or over the phone.
