The mission of the Illinois Community College System states, Through the ongoing assessment of student and community needs and goals, it is the responsibility of each community college to provide:

  • A broad range of educational programs, services, and delivery systems
  • The necessary development of its staff
  • An appropriate learning environment to address these needs and goals

The vision for the Information and Instructional Technology Department at SVCC is directly related to the mission of the Illinois Community College System. The SVCC vision is focused on the individuals who work and study in the College community. The IT department believes that a contemporary information and instructional technology environment should provide:

  • Access to appropriate desktop technology to perform their work and study
  • Access to a high-speed, general purpose network which they can easily access all computer based services that will facilitate their work and study
  • Administrative and academic support services
  • Open, secure, and easy access to institutional data
  • Scholarly data bases at SVCC and elsewhere
  • Research, instructional and personal productivity applications
  • Electronic mail
  • Sufficient and shared computing capacity at SVCC
  • Online public access catalog of the library

The IT department further believes:

  • That learners and staff must know that technology allows for an extended, more rich learning environment
  • That learners and staff must know how to use computers and software to perform their work and study more efficiently
  • That faculty and learners need sufficient access to technology equipped teaching facilities
  • That the College leads the community in being challenged to adopt new and better technologies
  • That learners need access to alternative methods of instructional delivery systems
