The SVCC AFA program prepares students to transfer to four-year institutions to pursue a bachelor's degree in music education, music performance, music business, or music therapy.
Success as a music major is based on self-discipline and hard work. Students are required to enroll in at least two ensembles per semester and to take 2 credit hours of applied instruction on their major instrument. Both of these requirements demand practice outside of class hours. A music major should expect to spend at least two hours a day preparing for lessons and/or ensembles.
Students interested in a career as a high school music teacher should also include Illinois teacher certificate requirements (see page 86 in the Sauk catalog).
