Sauk Valley Community College’s athletic program has a new face. Sauk’s official athletic mascot, the Skyhawk, will now be three dimensional and live in the feathers! The Skyhawk is a fearless mythical bird that exudes boundless energy and enthusiasm, a wining spirit, and sense of pride. Sauk’s mascot needs a name.To help with that, the college is offering a “Name the Mascot” coloring contest for third through fifth grade students at elementary schools, home schools, etc., throughout the Sauk district.

The Mascot, which will be officially introduced in late January at SVCC, will become a familiar face to represent Sauk and Skyhawk athletics at home athletic events, parades and other community events.

Coloring sheets are being distributed to area schools. Students should return their entries to their schools. Entries will be picked up by Sauk staff, and a committee at Sauk will select the winning entry. The winning student will be honored with a prize and introduced with the mascot in late January.

For more information on Sauk’s new mascot, call Luis Moreno, dean of student services, at 815/288-5511, ext. 360, or e-mail
