What's in a name?

Find out as Sauk Valley Community College will announce the winner of its “Name the Mascot” Coloring Contest between 4:30 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, in the SVCC Gymnasium.

The new mascot name will be announced along with presentation of awards and prizes to the for the winning entry. In addition, six other students will be recognized for their creative coloring and/or imaginative short stories as to how the Skyhawk was born and became Sauk’s mascot. A press release with names of the winners will be available at the game. In addition to the public, participating students and their families have been invited to attend the games and festivities.

Sauk sponsored a “Name the Mascot Coloring Contest” for third through fifth grade students at elementary schools within the SVCC district. More than 1,000 entries were received from 27 area schools. Sauk recently purchased a mascot costume to help promote the college at athletic and area community events. Sauk’s mascot, the Skyhawk, is a mythical bird of power and honor. Contest entries were judged by Sauk staff and faculty.
