Sauk Valley Community College’s Theater Department will hold auditions for its fall production of Euripides’s classic Medea at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, September 1 and September 8, and at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, in the Mathis Theatre.
Sauk’s production will be a contemporary re-vision of the Greek tragedy. The exiled wife of Jason, Medea seeks revenge over her husband to the bitter end.
Male and female actors age 18 and up are being sought for the production. In addition, there are roles for two male actors age 6 to 10. All non-theater majors interested in auditioning will receive sections of the script prior to the audition and read “cold” from the script. All theater majors will have to prepare a one-to-two minute monologue and read “cold” from the script.
Anyone interested in behind-the-scenes work should also attend any audition and fill out an audition form, but will not have to read from the script.
Jason Hedrick, director of Sauk’s theater department, said those who cannot attend the September 1st, 8th, or 9th auditions may call him to schedule an individual appointment.
Show dates for Sauk’s production of Medea will be 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 19; Friday, November 20; Saturday, November 21; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 22. A dinner theater will be available for the Saturday, November 21 show.
