Sauk to Offer Mid-fall CNA Program

Sauk Valley Community College will offer a two-course Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program beginning Wednesday, September 30, through Friday, December 11, 2009 in Room 3F2. Except for the first class on September 30, classes will meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The CNA program includes Basic Nursing Assistant (NRS 101) and Advanced Nursing Assistant (NRS 103).
The basic course will cover body structure, function, related terminology, growth and development with emphasis on aging and the role and responsibilities of the nursing assistant to help the client with personal hygiene and mobility within a safe environment. The advanced class will cover the role and responsibilities of the nursing assistant in relation to measuring vital signs, assisting the patient with nutrition, fluid balance and elimination; special procedures, admission and discharge, post mortem care, and how to care for patients with common medical-surgical conditions.

Both courses include clinical experience in a sub-acute health care setting.

Students may register online using Sauk’s online registration system SOAR at, or in person in the Office of Admissions and Records, Room 1J1. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, or 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
