Therapy Dog Training Classes Set for Oct. 1 - 5

October 2009

There is a need in the area for therapy dog-owner visits. Sauk Valley Community College will offer Therapy Dog Training from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, October 1 through November 5, in Sauk's T-1 Building.

This training will help prepare the dog and its owner to work effectively as a team in a variety of environments. Therapy dogs visit nursing homes, group homes, and schools. The class will include movies, site visits, and presentations. There will be optional certification testing upon course completion. Registration with the Delta Society, which includes insurance, is recommended. Shot records are required and dogs should have a friendly disposition. A textbook is available for $40.

Cost for the class is $55. To register, stop by Sauk’s Office of Admissions and Records between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, or between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays.
