Sauk Valley Community College will offer its Home Inspector course for those interested in home inspection and taking the Illinois State Home Inspection Exam. Classes will meet from 6 to 10 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, January 25, through March 22, 2010 in Room 2L6 at Sauk.
This course, approved by the Office of Banks and Real Estate (OBRE), covers all major elements of home inspection. It is geared primarily for working adults with a reasonable working knowledge in the building trades, architecture or engineering fields. However, this course is also excellent for appraisers, insurance adjusters, and property managers interested in gaining knowledge in home inspection, or for home inspectors who want a refresher course before taking the state exam. State law requires all Illinois home inspectors to become licensed.
Students will gain experience through interactive learning, increase their retention through an evenly-paced format, and increase their success with small classes taught by practicing professionals. Successful completion qualifies graduates to challenge the Illinois State exam for home inspection.
The instructor is David H. Barr, of Clinton, Iowa. Barr, owner/inspector of Home Inspectors Plus, Inc., is a licensed home inspector with the State of Illinois, a Certified Radon Tester, former licensed termite inspector, and former EPA certified asbestos inspector.
Cost is $775 and includes course fee, books, and all materials. To register, call Sauk's Office of Personal and Professional Development at 815/288-5511, ext. 212. This program is in partnership with William Rainey Harper College.
