Theater Dept. to Hold Auditions for Spring Production of Lysistrata

January 2010

Sauk Valley Community College’s Theater Department will hold auditions for its spring production of the comedy Lysistrata at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20; Thursday, January 21; and Monday, January 25, in the Mathis Theatre.

Male and female actors age 18 and up are being sought for the production, which contains adult themes and sexual humor. As the Peloponnesian War has dragged on for 18 years, the beautiful Lysistrata (along with other Athens wives), has become tired of the intermittent absence of their warrior husbands. She decides to bring an end to this situation by boycotting to deprive the husbands of their wives’ “love.”

No prepared material is required for non-theater majors.  Sauk theater majors should have a one-to-two minute audition monologue prepared. Those interested in assisting with the technical aspects of the show should also attend one of the auditions, but will not be expected to read.
