New Physical Therapy Aide Program to be Offered

October 2010

Sauk Valley Community College’s Office of Personal and professional Development will offer a new 50-hour Physical therapy Aide Program beginning in October. This 15-session program will meet from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning October 12 through December 2 at Sauk.

This comprehensive program will prepare students for the field of physical therapy. The physical therapy aide is generally responsible for carrying out non-technical aspects of physical therapy such as preparing treatment areas, ordering devices and supplies, and transporting patients under the direction of a physical therapist. In addition, aides help physical therapists provide services that help improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients that suffer from injuries or disease. Physical therapy aides may be employed in nursing homes, hospitals, sports rehabilitation centers, and some orthopedic clinics.

This program does not include national or state certification as part of its curriculum. For more information, call Sauk’s Office of Personal and Professional Development at 815/288-5511, ext. 212.
