Therapy Dog Training Course Begins Sept. 30

September 2010

Sauk Valley Community College will offer the four-session course, Therapy Dog Training, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, September 30 through October 21, in Sauk’s T-1 Building.

This training and information will help prepare owner and dog to work effectively as a team in a variety of environments. Therapy dogs visit nursing homes, group homes, and schools. Class includes movies, site visits, and presentations.

There will be optional certification testing upon course completion. Registration with the Delta Society which includes insurance is recommended. There is an extreme need for owner-dog team visits in the area. Shot records are a must and dogs should have a friendly disposition. Textbook is available for $40.

Cost for the class is $45. To register, stop by Sauk’s Office of Admissions and Records between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, or between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays. For more information on this class, call Sauk’s Office of Personal and Professional Development at 815/288-5511, ext. 212.
