Sauk Valley Community College student Kimsa Brown of Sterling has been awarded the Sterling Beta Sigma Phi Scholarship for 2010-11. The scholarship was distributed through the Sauk Valley College Foundation.
Brown, a general transfer student, has been active in Sauk’s AmeriCorps program, Student Support Services, Single Parent Association, Student Government, and is past recipient of the College’s Single Parent Scholarship. She plans to graduate in May 2011 with an Associate in Science, then transfer to Western Illinois University (Quad Cities Campus) to major in Recreational Parks and Tours Administration. She would like to pursue a career working in community-oriented organizations. The daughter of Lan Akins of Sterling, Kimsa is the mother of one son.
The Sterling Beta Sigma Phi Scholarship is one of 80 private donors that provide scholarships to deserving Sauk students each year. These scholarships play a crucial role in helping these students pursue their educational goals.
The Sauk Valley College Foundation is a non-profit corporation that helps to broaden the educational opportunities and services that SVCC provides for its students. Each year the Foundation distributes scholarships that total more than $160,000.
