Sauk Student Cervantes Awarded Rock Falls Women’s Club Scholarship

Sauk Valley Community College student Debra D. Cervantes of Rock Falls has been awarded the Rock Falls Women’s Club Scholarship for 2010-11. This $500 award was distributed through the Sauk Valley College Foundation.

Cervantes, a human services/social services major, carries a 3.32 grade point average. She plans to graduate from Sauk in May 2011 with an Associate in Applied Science and major in counseling and social services at a four-year institution. She also plans to earn professional certification to counsel those with addictions. Cervantes would like to pursue a career in alcohol and substance abuse counseling. Debra and her husband, the late Robert Cervantes, have two grown children.

The Rock Falls Women’s Club is one of more than 80 private donors that provide scholarships to deserving Sauk students each year. These scholarships play a crucial role in helping these students pursue their educational goals.

The Sauk Foundation is a non-profit corporation that helps to broaden the educational opportunities and services that SVCC provides for its students. Each year the Foundation distributes scholarships that total more than $160,000.
