SVCC to Offer Wilton Cake Decorating Basics Feb. 16, 23

February 2011

Sauk Valley Community College will offer the right way to learn how to decorate cakes step by step with “Wilton Cake Decorating Basics – Course 1,” from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesdays February 16 and 23, in Room 2L6 at Sauk.

In this two-session class, participants will discover how to bake a great cake, see how to make and color icing, learn the best way to ice a cake, learn to create drop flowers, rosettes, shells, pompom flowers, leaves, shaggy mums, and the Wilton ribbon rose.

On the first night of class, students will need to bring a hand mixer, bowls for frosting, ingredients to make icing (one pound of powdered sugar, one cup of shortening, and flavoring like vanilla), and hand towels. A supply kit will be available for purchase from the instructor for about $30.

Cost for this class is $60. To register, stop by Sauk’s Office of Admissions, Room 1J1, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays or between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. For more information about this class, call Sauk’s Office of Personal and Professional Development at 815/288-5511, ext. 212.
