Sauk Valley Community College's Concert Choir and Jazz Ensemble will perform a Spring Concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, in Sauk’s East Mall. There is no charge to attend and the public is invited.
The 25-member Concert Choir, under the direction of Kris Murray, assistant professor of humanities, and accompanied by Tim Fischbach, adjunct faculty music, will feature pieces by the late Astor Piazzolla, renowned classical tango composer from Argentina, in honor his 90th Birthday in 2011. Selections will include Dixit Dominus, by W.A. Mozart; “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho,” arranged by Norman Luboff; and “Oblivion,” by Astor Piazzolla.
The SVCC New Music Ensemble will perform three other pieces by Piazzolla including “Milonga des Angels,” “Libertango,” and “Lo Que Vendra.”
Sauk’s eight-member Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Gary Johnson, adjunct faculty music, will perform “Autumn Leaves,” by Johnny Mercer; “Billy’s Bounce,” by Charlie Parker; “Rhythm-a-ning,” by Theolonius Monk; “Music Music Music,” by Weiss and Baum, featuring Kylee Lombardo; and “Softly as a Morning Sunrise,” by Sigmund Romberg and Oscar Hammerstein II.
Sauk’s Music Department will also present its Sophomore Recital at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, off campus at The Next Picture Show, 113 W. First St., Dixon. The talent and work of three sophomores will be featured.
