Canning Classes Available August 10 and 17

Sauk Valley Community College will offer two courses in food preservation and canning in the coming week as the start to many enrichment and professional classes offered this semester.

The high acid food preservation class will be held Wednesday, August 10 from 6-8 p.m. This course will help students learn how to water bathe high acid vegetables. Students will be able to learn hands on with tomatoes or pickles provided by the instructor as well.

Pressure canning low acid and meats class will be Wednesday, August 17 from 6-8 p.m. This class will focus on how to pressure can meat, stews, and soups to make it easy on busy days to have a meal ready for dinner.

Cost for each class is $25. Both classes will be held at Muller’s Lane Farm, 9767 Hickory Hills Road in Rock Falls. To register, stop by or call Sauk’s Admissions Office. For more information on these classes, call the Business and Community Education Office at 815/288-5511, ext. 212.
